To all macOS users:

I personally don't own a Apple.
I only have limited access to an iMac 27 Late 2013.
There is now Big Sur 11.6 installed (yes, it's possible).
I compiled it on this macOS.

Things to do:

1. Install the FTDI driver V1.4.7 for Big Sur
    Look at the FTDI VCP drivers site for install instructions.
2. Plugin the USB adapter
3. Check if inside the /dev directory is a file named /dev/tty.usbserialXXX
4. Add your user account to the group of this device (else you have no write access)
    (use ls -al /dv/tty.usbserial* to see the group name of the file)
5. Check if GuzziDiag shows this device in settings.
6. It should work now, but I was not able to test it with a real ECU.

If not, I can not assist you further, as already mentioned, I'm not an apple user.

All OSs:

Make sure that no screensaver becomes active while you are running Reader or Writer.
This would disturb the data transfer and the connection will be lost.
Also virus scanners can make problems. If your are in doubt, disable it temporarily.
All programs need write access to the directory where they resides (ini file).

Windows hints:

If you have problems with connection or breaks during connection,
then stop all programs which are running in the background.
Your taskbar in the right lower corner should be nearly empty.
If the devicemanager shows a working COM port, but nothing works, disable virus scanners.

Linux hints:

The USB adapter is searched as /dev/ttyUSB*, where * is a placeholder.
/dev/ttyUSB* has 660 as rights per default.
So you need to change this, or use: sudo ./GuzziDiag_Vx.xx to start it.
You can also add yourself to the linux group dialout, than you are also allowed to use it.
A directory ~/.local/share has to be available. But that should be the case.

Mac OS X hints:

The USB adapter is searched as /dev/tty.usbserial*, where * is a placeholder.
If your finder is blinking:
try to convert the app to a self growing diskimage.
It was reported that this solves the problem.
From OS 10.9 onwards Apple uses its own USB driver for FTDI.
In a forum thread it was written that this also causes problems.
There are some commands to disable the internal driver (see FTDI PDF),
or search for a program which disable the original driver.
Just installed 'el capitan' OSX 10.11.3. The FTDI device is working out of the box.

FTDI Driver Windows:

If you have problems to get a connection try to install version 2.08.24 of the driver.
2.08.24 as self-installing exe.
With this, you can istall the drivers before plug in the adapter the first time.
So the newer windows versions does not start to search for a driver on the net.
